Holdsworth House Wedding Photography - Danielle & Christopher

Wedding Photographer at Holdsworth House Hotel and Restaurant

”Absolutely amazing pictures, we can’t stop looking at them.
Matt took pictures at our wedding in January 2022, he captured everything about the day. He didn’t just get the visuals, he captured the emotions of the day too.
We highly recommend Matt, he’s an outstanding photographer and so easy to work with.
We couldn’t be happier with what he’s delivered.’

A beautiful day for my first wedding of the year, providing wedding photography at Holdsworth House in. Halifax, Yorkshire, for the intimate wedding of Danielle and Christopher.

It was a chilly January day outside but the fires were roaring inside the beautiful Jacobean Manor House creating the perfect backdrop to celebrate their wedding day.

Red Hall Hotel - Wedding Photography - Sarah & Dave

The joy of capturing the wedding of an old friend

‘We were a bit nervous waiting for our wedding pictures to come back, but we shouldn't have been, they were amazing! Absolutely beautiful and a perfect reminder of our wedding. Matt was brilliant on the day, I didn't even realize he had taken half the pictures he took! completely captured the day from start to finish. We cant thank him enough and would highly recommend him for anyone's wedding! X’

This wedding was a little different, photographer and guest. It was great to see an old friend getting married and a lot of fun being the photographer, although I may have ended up with slightly more blurred photos than usual as the evening wore on, and it’s even more unusual that I am actually in some of the pictures!

Dave & Sarah, thanks for a fantastic day!

A Very Intimate Wedding - Rose and Josh

A Covid Restricted Wedding - The Guild Hall Worcester

A few weeks ago I finally got to Photograph my first Wedding in what feels like a lifetime. Like many others these guys had been very organised, planning and booking their wedding well in advance, securing a beautiful venue and all their preferred suppliers, including myself as their photographer. But again, like many others their plans were thwarted by the dreaded Covid, postponements were made, back up plans were put in place, and those cursed words were uttered, “everything should be fine by then!”.

But what really mattered was getting married so when the Prime Minister made his final announcements and the rules said six guests, Rose & Josh put what mattered first, made a few final adjustments and married at ‘The Guild Hall Worcester’ accompanied by their closest family members. and myself with my cameras! Other friends and family watched via a live Zoom call and a few stopped by after the ceremony to wish the new Husband & Wife their best wishes.

The Photographers Wedding day nerves

Shooting a wedding is a nerve wracking experience, in my opinion if it isn’t then you are not putting your all into what you are doing, sure anyone with a camera can do it, but to do it and add that little bit of something extra takes a little bit more work. Thousands of thoughts run through your mind, will I be in the right place? will I see the best shots? will I be ready for those special moments? will the light be right? will I see the light and make best use of it? will I have the right lens on? will my camera focus? Oh please focus! will my pictures look natural? will they look cliche? what would a ‘wedding photographer do’ and how can I do it different? How can I add depth and interest? will I get the best pictures I can get? And when you haven’t shot for a while then these nerves are amplified, and when the wedding is only a couple of hours then you just dont want to miss a thing. Luckily everything came together on the day, and worked out well, my nerves soon faded, it just left me itching and excited to get back to it and to start shooting a lot more!

The beautiful dress was from Ashton Rose Bridal, Hereford. And the amazing flowers were from May Rose Floral Design, also in Herefordshire.

Bride and Bloom at Barns & Yard of Hanley Hall

During the summer I was asked by Hannah, of Bride & Bloom, if I would be interested in capturing some of her work at a new Wedding venue called Barns & Yard. Having worked with Hannah on several occasions I just knew this would be an amazing opportunity , and having a little look at the venue I jumped at the chance.

On the day the flowers did not disappoint, the pastel colour palette was perfect and the arrangements just looked so natural in their surroundings, an unusual challenge to make them look as though they are not a permanent fixture in the courtyard! The flowers were displayed in a number of areas, the main features being the floral archway, and isle runners, set out with benches (supplied by barebones) to create a wedding ceremony setting. And a perfect setting this would be, it was easy to imagine a beautiful, intimate outdoor ceremony taking place here. Inside the venue the focus shifted to table flowers both on the tables and at the foot of the tables, making a perfect area for a wedding reception, Bride and Bloom assisted by Laura of Studio 81 Events did an amazing job.

As for the venue, wow! I love the place, Barns & Yard of Hanley Hall, Worcestershire is the perfect rural get away, nestled in the Malvern hills this place would make the perfect setting for an intimate wedding or party. I can imagine this place would suit those that don’t necessarily have hundreds of guests but have their priorities in sharing their time and memories with close friends and family. The venue almost has a continental feel, it would be easy to imagine you are spending time in the grounds of a luxury French Chateau. The barn and farm cottages date back to Tudor times, it is this character that has been tastefully restored and combined with stylish contemporary details that just make the place perfect. To set the scene further the courtyard is faced on one side by the Barn itself and then on the other aspects by accommodation that can be individual apartments or interconnected to make one big friendly space for sharing special times.

For the photographs I had the freedom to capture things in my own way, I chose to shoot on a combination of digital and classic analog film, it is said that good photographs need an interesting subject matter, the flowers in this location ticked this box, good composition and good lighting, the light was perfect, yes the sun was shining but the location provided perfect shapes ands shadows to fulfil this requirement.

Barns & Yard is a venue I would definitely recommend and a wedding venue I would definitely love to return to, so if your planning your wedding then do not hesitate to get in touch!
